Athe Bears play the waiting game with Vic Fangio to determine if he’s in or out as the team’s defensive coordinator,Authentic Vic Beasley Jr Jersey, it’s worth wondering what the timeline will be for a decision.
Fangio is out of contract after three seasons with the organization and he wants to ensure his choice of teams is the one that serves him best. The Bears certainly want Fangio to return after the improvements that have been made, especially in 2017 when the team ranked 10th in total defense despite weathering significant injuries.
There was risk in losing Fangio when the Bears chose Matt Nagy as their head coach on Monday,Authentic Pat Tillman Jersey, five days after Fangio was given the first of six interviews for the job. There was no guarantee the team would be able to retain Fangio and the Bears remain in limbo as to what direction they will take defensively under Nagy.
General manager Ryan Pace said Wednesday night during an appearance on WSCR-670 AM that he and Nagy were both in contact with Fangio. The lines of communication have remained open and clearly Fangio requested time to make a decision.
Nagy has made significant hires for his offensive staff,Womens David Johnson Jersey, adding coordinator Mark Helfrich and line coach Harry Hiestand. Special teams coordinator Chris Tabor also has been hired but the Bears have yet to announce any moves on defense.
Will Fangio make a decision before the divisional round playoff games this weekend? The Cardinals,Womens Deion Jones Jersey, Giants and Lions have yet to hire head coaches and movement for one or more of those franchises could come early next week,Colts,Authentic Austin Hooper Jersey, especially if some of the teams with head coaching candidates engaged in the playoffs (Patriots coordinators Josh McDaniels and Matt Patricia and Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur) wind up losing. Fangio is believed to be a possibility to take a job with Shurmur.
Gus Bradley was viewed as a top candidate as defensive coordinator for the Bears if Fangio were to leave but he’s no longer an option after re-signing with the Chargers. Vikings defensive coordinator George Edwards,Authentic Deion Jones Jersey, who interviewed with Pace for the head coaching position, is considered a possibility and he is coming out of contract. A source said Cardinals defensive coordinator James Bettcher would be interested in talking to the Bears if the Cardinals don’t promote him to head coach. Bettcher clearly isn’t doing anything as long as he’s in play for the Cardinals’ top spot.
However,Womens Pat Tillman Jersey, Ind.,Authentic David Johnson Jersey, Bettcher has one year remaining on his contract and the Bears would have to request permission from the Cardinals to meet with the Lakeville,Womens Austin Hooper Jersey, native who grew up a Bears fan. The Cardinals might want to retain Bettcher with their new head coach in the event he is not promoted and potentially could appease him with a pay raise. Former Cardinals coach Bruce Arians has urged the team to promote Bettcher.
For now,Womens Vic Beasley Jr Jersey, the waiting game with Fangio continues and if the Bears’ fallback plans aren’t currently available, there is no reason to hurry.
